21 Decorating Ideas for a Chic Bathroom

Bathroom updates often take low priority, falling behind more observable chambers in the race to create our homes habitable. But using a gorgeous, practical and stylish toilet can enhance your daily life (more than a pretty dining room, one could argue), making dashed mornings run somewhat more smoothly and assisting you to unwind at the end of the day. So why not show your toilet some love? Whether you’re searching for an easy upgrade (new fittings) or some significant makeover (new what), these 21 ideas can inspire a creative change.

1. A daring statement mirror, such as the driftwood design shown here, can completely alter the appearance and feel of your bathroom — even without any other changes.

2. Painting the lower half of these walls a rich shade is a great way to give your bath a fresh look when you don’t have tiled walls.

3. Invest in new storage baskets that coordinate with the wall color to tie everything together — and maintain toiletries and towels from sight.

4. Big switch: Forgo a bathtub in favor of a significant shower. This can be a wise move for those who seldom boil. Bonus: A open or glass-walled shower will earn a little bathroom feel larger.

5. Big change: Try a contemporary sink. The crisp, clean lines of a contemporary console sink look fresh with slate floors, a muted colour and simple lighting.

6. Big change: Choose a freestanding bathtub. Love to soak? If you’ve got the space, don’t settle for a shower-tub combo any longer. Another bathtub will give you a much more luxurious soaking experience.

7. Utilize a “real” carpet rather than a bath mat. It is unexpected and feels great underfoot. Even though you can use any little rug, it is ideal to choose one you can toss in the washing machine occasionally.

8. A timber stump stool
is an easy way to add warmth and natural feel to a toilet. Utilize one beside the bathtub to maintain your teacup and reserve within reach during extended soaks.

9. Big change: Compose a message in tiles. Have a favorite quote that inspires you? Have it eternally “written” in your wall in tiny mosaic tiles. White letters on a dark background look particularly dramatic.

10. Try out a unique pendant lamp. Decked a standard-issue ceiling lamp for something more dramatic is a small change that will make a very big impact. The mild shown here was made by hand in Egypt; it casts a gorgeous pattern on the walls when lit.

11. Hang large hooks and fringed towels. Occasionally a detail in this way can make all the difference. Consider hanging a few extra-large wall hooks and swapping out your old towels for thinner ones that are jazzy.

12. Add lush drapes. Why stick with boring shower curtains when you could have real linen or sheer cotton voile instead? Look beyond the bath section and choose. If they’re going around a showerless bathtub, you’re probably going to use them more for privacy than maintaining water in. To encircle a bathtub, pair the curtains with a watertight liner.

13. Insert storage. Short on cabinet space? Bring in one or two miniature, glass-front cabinets for a fashionable storage supplement. There are new reproductions of these cabinets that are popular, but if you’re persistent, you can locate originals in antiques shops and on eBay — sometimes for a lower cost than the reproductions.

14. Big change: Try a chic black and white plot. Pair white subway tile with black or charcoal-gray grout for a cool (and surprisingly affordable) look. Choose simple gray tile floors and black accents on the shower and mirror frames, then bring the glamour in with glistening brass sink and sink fittings.

15. Big change: Proceed for diverse tiled floors. Craving something different than hex tiles? Pick out a bunch of coordinating — but not fitting — patterned tiles for a vibrant, eclectic look. From the area revealed here, the handmade texture of these tiles is enhanced with beautifully textured plaster partitions, especially formulated to resist moisture.

16. Big change: Use vibrant tile as an accent. Rather than covering an entire wall or flooring in vibrant tile, think about having only one section done; the pattern is really going to stick out against a solid-hued background.

17. Insert wire and timber. Cable adds crispness , and timber (the older and more worn, the better) adds heat. Together they hit the perfect balance. Use a wooden shelf within the bath to maintain additives inside reach and stash fresh towels in a wire basket.

18. Add plants and art. Green foliage, framed prints and even little, soft sculptures will warm up and personalize the bathroom. You can probably even find a few things to use by simply “shopping” the other rooms in your residence.

19. Utilize sink caddies to corral pretty soaps. Very similar to what you might use on top of your bathtub, these smaller wooden caddies can be put atop a big sink to store often used items at hand — they’re so much more appealing than a bunch of bottles cluttering up the edge of the sink.

20. Hang shelving beneath a console sink. Wall-mounted console sinks could be tasteful but provide little in the way of storage. One way to get around that without springing for a whole new vanity is by adding a shelf underneath the sink. You’ll have a great place to store fresh towels, and it may hide unsightly pipes.

21. Big change: Try a timber plank wall. Add rustic allure no matter where you live by applying reclaimed wood planks to your walls. If you go this route, just make sure you do your study or talk with a pro who can lead you to the forests and finishes that can withstand moist conditions.
