Bright orange is, well, glowing, and that explains the reason why it works best in small doses on interior walls. If you’re fortunate to have a space with abundant all-natural lighting, you can utilize this intense color without too much worry about overwhelming those in the room.

This is a brilliant use of colour. The vibrant orange color livens up the cool gray and gray, and the cloth softens all of the hard surfaces. The best part, however, is that it would be supereasy and cheap to change out the orange — no paintbrush required.

Whether this image inspires you to paint an accent wall in your house, try also adding a couple of small accessories at a similar color around the space. It will help the eye go through the room and balance the intensity of the accent wall.

Another stunning accent wall. Notice how everything in the space is a light or neutral colour. The daring wall color functions as a piece of artwork — as the background canvas to the bird sculptures. Simple yet stunning.

Michele Plachter Design

Not a fan of daring accent walls? Install a couple of wall sockets and paint the interiors a vibrant hue. These make great screen shelves for almost any interesting items you happen to collect.

I love the tendency of swapping out upper wall cabinets for windows at a kitchen. It makes a space so gloriously open and full of light. What a joy it has to be to cook and entertain in here! With such abundant all-natural light bouncing through the room, you might also introduce warmer and darker colours — like electric orange — without worrying that the space will look cave-like or too technicolor.

Warm wood floors, like the one pictured here, tend to see as orange. The bold orange rug tiles seem more nuanced — nearly textural — against the background of the “orange” flooring. It is a nice effect and enables the gorgeous furniture, in calming gray hues, to stand outside.

I would recommend most people to steer clear of glowing orange as an exterior colour, but clearly it can work on contemporary design. The clean lines and minimal adornment actually beg for vibrant colour; the bright orange color is a fantastic selection.
