Where to Place a Pebble Border in the Shower

A decorative pebble border in the bathtub is a contemporary twist on the conventional white ceramic tub and tiles of yesteryear. It’s a classy upgrade that can turn a drab bathroom to a peaceful and luxurious day spa in your own home. A pebble border is a wonderful accent in a natural stone tile shower, kicking up the layout variable in your bathroom. Pebbles come in a variety of sizes, textures and colors and can be put in several distinct locations to create unique looks.

Above Eye Level

Some people choose to place the border slightly above eye level — it’s visually appealing and attracts the focus for this delicate detail. This type of border may be positioned just below where the showerhead attaches to the wall, or to be centered across the showerhead so it’s surrounded by seams. A greater pebble border is also a perfect accent when a beautiful pebble floor is in place, since it ties the two areas together.

Above the Bathtub

When a tile or stone wall is used in combination with a ceramic bathtub, placing a pebble border around the top of the bathtub is an excellent feature. The border creates a backsplash while giving the bather something beautiful to gaze at while soaking in the bathtub. In addition, it adds great texture and contrast when placed from the smoothness of the ceramic bathtub.

Around the center

A wide, bold border of seams right through the center of the bathtub adds depth and interest to your shower feature. The center of the bathtub is often where inlays or shelves are built into the wall to hold shower toiletries like shampoo, and decorating the inlay with seams adds a lavish feel to your bathtub. For an added pop, then make the inlaid portion a contrasting shade of seams to those positioned on the outer wall of the bathtub.

In a Pattern

The border does not have to be straight or in a perfectly even line across all four sides of the shower. Create a pattern with the seams such as a gradually widening ribbon that starts at the upper left corner of one wall and cascades down to the lower right corner, spilling onto an all-pebble floor. Or try one which gently flows down and up like waves in a river. A pebble border can actually be reflective of your own personal tastes and design preferences.
